Drop-off and Dismissal

Belton Middle School Afternoon Car Dismissal

At BMS, our top priority is your child’s education and safety. With that in mind, we have a new system in place for the afternoon dismissal for car riders which will begin the first day of school.

This year, each family is given a car tag to be used at dismissal.  You will be given 2 sets of the tag for you to use in carpools or to give to a designated driver. You can cut this card into two tags. The tag needs to be displayed in the car window whenever you or another authorized person picks up your child.  When you pull into the car line in the afternoons, you will be forming a double line.  Please pull up as close to the car in front of you as possible.  If you are in line 1 (parallel to the football field), please place your tag on the driver side. If you are in line 2 (parallel to Cherokee Road), please place your tag on the passenger side of the car.

A staff member will walk between the two rows of cars and input the student’s name into their device to signal your arrival.  Therefore, the tag will need to be displayed on either the driver’s side or the passenger’s side window, depending on where your car is in the line. If you arrive and do not have your tag, you will be directed to pull into the parking lot and wait until dismissal is over. We will then check your photo ID and call into the office to see if you are an authorized person to pick up the child.

We will mark off approximately 14 cars at a time to be in groups. Car riders will remain in the building at dismissal time.   Student names will appear on teacher’s devices inside the school where the car riders are located. At dismissal time, we will begin dismissing Group 1.  A teacher and safety patrols will walk Group 1 car riders down the double parked car line.  When all cars are loaded, that group will be directed to pull out and the next group will be directed to pull up. This procedure is followed for all car groups.  It will be extremely important for all children to pay attention at dismissal.    If a child does not come out with his group, the parent will be directed to pull around to the front of the school and go in to locate their child. Only children who have been called in a group will be outside. Parents need to remain in their cars at all times.  No student will be dismissed at the front of the building or from the office except in rare cases of families needing an early dismissal.

All families are given carline barcode tags, even if your child rides a bus.  Please keep this in your car in the event you ever need to pick your child up.  We will not allow children to go to cars without the official Belton Middle School car tag. If you lose or damage your card, you will need to come to the office and purchase replacement tags for $1.

Thank you for understanding that this is an important safety measure for our children. As we open this school year in a new setting for everyone, we greatly appreciate your patience and understanding as everyone gets into this new routine.
